About Ira
Texas born and Oakland Ca raised, Ira Coogler is a nonrepresentational artist. "My art is a mixture of my emotions and feelings about Black life". "Life is my biggest influence". Although color-blind since childhood, Ira uses beautiful and vividly inviting colors to captivate viewers and guide them along his visual journey.
"There are times that I paint a piece to bring awareness to a situation, an event or a place in time". "Those pieces can be depressing and sad; and for those who suffer from it; I apologize". "It's never my intent to make anyone feel badly, it’s important for us to remember the time or the situation". His artistic style is classified as 21st Century Cartoon Realism. Ira enjoys drawing on any clear surface (like a graffiti artist). "I draw on fruit, napkins, toilet paper, paper plates… just about anything with a clean surface!"
Artistic expression certainly runs in the Coogler family. Ira's sons, Director, Producer, Writer and Academy Award Nominee, Ryan Coogler, SAG Writer, Keenan Coogler and Music Artist, Noah Coogler, all in their own way share Ira's love for promoting the enrichment of Black culture.
